Kerien Breytenbach's Story

🌷 My Story – Walking Beside You

My name is Kerien, and my heart beats for people—especially in the moments when life becomes tender, transitions feel overwhelming, and dignity and compassion matter most.

From a young age, I’ve felt called to stand beside others in their most vulnerable seasons. I’ve always had a deep sensitivity to people’s emotions, which led me to complete a counseling course, and more recently, to pursue my certification as a Death Doula through the IAP. This is more than a role—it's a calling. A space where I can walk alongside others, offering support that is both practical and filled with care.

A Journey That Chose Me

This work didn’t arrive by accident—it gently unfolded through the experiences of my life.

I’ve supported my aunt in her later years—accompanying her on shopping trips, keeping her company, and simply being there. I care for my mom when she visits me—helping her navigate stores, walking beside her as she adjusts to the rhythm of growing older.

But the deepest roots of my calling come from personal moments I’ll never forget.

My grandfather was cared for in our home by my mother for the final 11 months of his life, and he passed away peacefully in our house. I witnessed firsthand what it looks like to care with love and commitment until the very end.

I was also present when my father passed away.

In those moments—when the world stands still and emotions run high—I discovered something profound about myself:

I’m not afraid.

I can stay calm, grounded, and present.

I can hold space, sort through the chaos, and be a steady hand when life feels like it’s falling apart for others.

And now, I want to offer that same presence to those who need it most.

A Heart for Transition and Support

As a Conveyancing Secretary, I’ve had countless conversations with elderly clients preparing to sell the homes where they raised families and built a lifetime of memories. I see beyond the paperwork—I see the emotion, the grief, the need for someone to understand.

That’s why I’m creating a service where people don’t just get help—they’re heard, held, and honored.

I offer support with:

  • Packing, sorting, and transitioning into smaller or new spaces

  • Downsizing with dignity while honoring a lifetime of memories

  • Drafting Last Will and Testament documents and Advance Care Directives

  • Accompanied shopping trips, companionship, and daily support

  • Legacy and memory work—capturing stories that matter

  • Connecting families with a trusted care network: oxygen suppliers, wound care nurses, mobility support, palliative professionals, and more

Together with my dear friend—a palliative care expert with 24 years of experience—we offer a circle of care that blends heart, knowledge, and practical solutions.

Raising Awareness, Restoring Dignity

My deepest desire is to raise awareness about palliative care—what it truly is, who has access, and how to get the help they need, early enough to make a real difference.

Palliative care isn’t only for the end. It’s about living well until the last breath, being surrounded by comfort, love, and choice.

💜 My Promise to You

If you or someone you love is navigating change—whether due to aging, illness, or life transition—I’m here to walk with you.

To listen.

To hold space.

To make sure you feel seen, supported, and never alone.

Because every voice deserves to be heard.

Every wish deserves to be honored.

And no one should walk this path without love by their side.
